Roger Cremades
University of Leeds
Roger’s complex systems research appeared in some of the most important journals of the global change and sustainability arenas, focussed on insurances (Cremades et al., 2018, Nature Climate Change), climate policies (Hasselmann, Cremades et al., 2015, Nature Gesocience), and cities (Cremades and Sommer, 2019, GMD). After 6 years working as climate change economist at the German Climate Service Center, where he moved up the ladder from part-time worker to principal investigator and coordinator of European projects, in 2020 Roger started working at Wageningen University and Research to implement complex systems approaches to the circular economy. He currently has an Associate Professor permanent position at the University of Leeds (UK). Earlier, he obtained his PhD in Geosciences at the doctoral school of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and Universität Hamburg (Germany), studied Environmental Economics (MSc) at Cranfield University (UK), and Forestry Engineering (BSc) and Environmental Science (BSc) at the Technical University of Valencia (Spain), besides two semesters at Padova University and at the Beijing University of Technology. Overall Roger has more than 15 years of experience working on global change related jobs on public administrations, private business and international research institutions. In addition to the topics mentioined above, Roger is introducing complex systems into several corners of the global change and sustainability agendas, such as climate services and the water-energy-land nexus. Recently, he founded the Complexity, Economics and Global Change working group in Future Earth, the largest international global change research program.
