The call for participation in the 2022 edition of the Winter Workshop on Complex Systems is now open!

This is the 7th edition of the WWCS and it will be held in the East of France (Besançon and Arc-et-Senans) from January 24th to January 28th 2022. Previously it was held in Brussels, Madrid, Petnica, Utrecht, Zakopane and Gruyere.

The WWCS was inspired by the Sante Fe Institute's Complex Systems Summer School (CSSS) and its goal is to inspire and promote interdisciplinary collaborations in complex systems research. As such, the focus of the week will be to initiate new interdisciplinary projects. The workshop is open to postdocs and experienced PhD students (about 40 in total). A large portion of the workshop will be dedicated to project teams spending time developing project ideas that they will present at the end of the workshop. To facilitate this, we will have a number of other activities, including talks from invited speakers, tutorials, social activities and games.

We have invited 4 speakers:

  • Alain Barrat

  • David Chavalarias

  • Linda Douw

  • Stephen Thurner

who will also be around during the workshop to offer advice and join in the collaboration.

The cost of the workshop is 200 euros and includes:

  • Accommodation from Monday to Friday (4 nights)

  • Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

  • Coffee Break

  • Social Dinner

  • Transport between Besançon and Arc-et-Senans (where the venue is)

Considering the ongoing global pandemic, we offer some limited places for virtual participation. The cost of 50 euros includes attending lectures and being able to engage in project teams with other online participants. Please note that this option is reserved for people who are not able to join onsite.

The deadline for first applications is 8th November 2021. Selected participants will be notified by 22nd November 2021.
