The Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS) is the German-Polish center for dataintensive complex systems science. CASUS focuses on developing advanced digital solutions for complex systems research as a cross-disciplinary endeavour for answering the grand scientific challenges of the future.

Founded in August 2019 as a common center by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung, the Max-Planck-Institut für Molekulare Zellbiologie und Genetik, the Exzellenzuniversität Technische Universität Dresden and the Excellence University Uniwersytet Wrocławski, CASUS is located in the heart of Görlitz, close to the border between Germany and Poland.

For the CASUS start up phase we seek an experienced project manager with a proven track record in project management of large scientific projects experienced in operating in an international environment.

The CASUS start up phase is a project financed by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur und Tourismus and is hosted by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden – Rossendorf.

We are looking for candidates with

  • Proven experience in managing large scientific projects over several years, preferable involving multi-national partners.
  • Experience in research proposal design and writing, knowledge of the German science system, additional knowledge of the Polish and European science system is highly welcome
  • An academic background, preferably a university master or diploma in a natural science, computer science, mathematics, or related areas. Candidates with a PhD and/or background in complex systems sciences and/or interdisciplinary research are highly welcome.
  • A high motivation to work at and for CASUS and its mission
  • Efficient, structured, thorough and self-reliant working style
  • Strong communication skills, personal responsibility, assertiveness, team-working skills, intercultural competence, and service orientation
  • Profound command of German and English languages suitable for professional communication in administrating scientific projects. Proficiency of the Polish language is highly welcome
  • Experience in using modern project management tools and MS Office tools. Experience in using collaborative working tools, document versioning, and management tools, especially online tools is highly welcome

The position requirements include

  • Planning and coordination of the administration of the CASUS project phase
  • Coordination of the organizational collaboration of the CASUS partners
  • Coordination of the communication between the CASUS directorate, international scientific advisory board, supervisory board, funding agencies, project partners, and other stake holders
  • Coordination, communication, reporting, and dissemination of information within the CASUS project
  • Coordination of the administrative processes of the CASUS institute, including but not limited to finances, human resources, funding, contracts, public outreach, and construction planning CASUS offers
