We would like to announce the International Latin-American School and Workshop on Foundations of Complexity – Nonadditive Entropies and Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics, to be held at the Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the period of 4 October to 30 October 2015.
The Latin-American School, and the International Workshop inserted within, are primarily sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation. The School activities will take place in the first, second and fourth weeks of the period; the International Workshop will take place during the third week of the same period, i.e., during 19 to 23 October 2015.
The activities will primarily focus on the connections between complex systems on one hand, and nonadditive entropies, nonextensive statistical mechanics, as well as any other related approaches, on the other hand. The discussion of natural, artificial and social systems which constitute possible candidates for analytical, computational, experimental and observational applications of such approaches is absolutely welcome, including epistemological contributions.
The international School is mainly for PhD students and post-docs interested in the field. Most of the students are expected to come from Latin-American countries, but the School is open to participants of all nationalities.
Thanks to the John Templeton Foundation support, it will be possible to fully or partialy cover the travel expenses for some selected Latin-American students who otherwise would not be able to attend the School. In order to participate they should fill the form available at the website (http://www.cbpf.br/~complex) and send their CV and a recommendation letter to email@example.com.
Senior researchers are also very welcome to attend both the school and the workshop and should only fill the form at the website.
Short oral contributions and posters will be possible at the workshop upon request.
After acceptance, participants will be requested to pay a fee of US$ 100,00 (or R$ 300,00) which will cover coffee break and supporting material during the event.
The deadline for applications is 31 May 2015.
Please feel free to diffuse this letter among all possibly interested people.
