Notice of competition for the CSS senior scientific award 2o22

The CSS promotes the Senior Scientific Award to recognize the scientific career of Complex Systems scholars. It is awarded once a year to members who have achieved outstanding results in complexity science in any of the areas representative of the CSS.

1. Aim and Criteria

The Senior Scientific Award is awarded to a selected scholar for his/her achievements in research on any of the areas representative of the CSS. Both theoretical and experimental research activities are taken into account. In particular, the award will recognize outstanding contributions relevant to the progress of complexity science.

2. Award

The Award will consist of a lifetime CSS membership, an invitation to give a Keynote presentation at the corresponding annual CSS Conference and to the Award Ceremony, with travel expenses covered by the society (up to 1000 euros), and a Diploma.

3. Submission of Candidacies

The winner will be selected by the Scientific Commission among the candidacies received within the deadline indicated below. The rules for the submission of candidacies are as follows:

  • All applications should be sent through an online form: https://forms.gle/VKnijE1JjSE6oszf9  
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Any scholar, in whatever discipline among those covered by the CSS, can be nominated.
  • Each candidacy can be submitted by at least one nominator, who sends a dossier motivating the specific candidacy.
  • The nominator should be a member of the CSS at the time of the nomination
  • A candidacy remains valid for 2 years, provided the candidate still fulfils the eligibility conditions. Nominator(s) can nevertheless update support documents if desired.
  • Each year, multiple nominations by the same nominator are not allowed. So, a nominator can support at most two candidates per year, one new and one that remains form the previous year.

4. Candidature Dossier

The nominator is required to upload the following material:

  • A candidature statement written by the nominator describing and motivating the candidacy of the nominee to the award and the nominee’s main area of research. 
  • A CV of the candidate.
  • Letters of support from other senior researchers are not required. However, they can be added if the nominator wishes to do so.

5. Selection of Candidatures

The Selection Committee is fully and exclusively endowed with the responsibility of assessing the eligibility of candidatures, examining and selecting the dossiers of the admitted candidates and proposing the winner to the Executive Committee of the CSS, that will then take the final decision.

6. Deadline for Candidacy Submission

The candidacy dossier related to the year 2020 and including all documents as per art. 4, has to be received by the CSS within the end of May 31st, 2022 anywhere on Earth.
