Who's who project

Coordinator : David Chavalarias

Participant : Frederic Amblard

This project aims at a regular edition of a who's who in complex systems. The first issue (spring 2008) has already been downloaded more than 4000 times ! To foster collaborations within the complex systems community, the Who's Who Issue II will be accompanied by an online brower of the bipartite graph generated from scholars names and their keywords (see below).

We intend to send a paper version once a year of the who's who to all institutions registered on the CSS website and to update online the document once each four months.

Current phase

The second issue of the Complex Systems Who's who is forthcoming .

Next stage

  • Adverstize for scholars to register the who's who
  • Append a who's who of the institutions to the who's who of scholars using the list of CS organizations
  • release the paper version and update the electronic version issue II - Summer 2008
  • Addition of an online brower of the bipartite graph generated from scholars names and their keywords. Keywords will be taken from the keywords field in the scholar's profile. Here are few snapshots :

Last Modifications

  • Sept 5 2008 : release of the Issue II Draft.
  • April 27 2008: Release of issue I Spring 2008
  • March 23 2008 : The who's who now mention initials in names. The pie about countries origins has been changes according to remarks. The who's who also includes a sort by country display.

Most current sources of bad display

The convertion Tiki -> Latex is far from perfect and there are still some expression that are not correctly parsed. Meanwhile we improve this convertion, we will be grateful to try to respect the following contraints :
  • Avoid links with html of tiki syntax e.g.
  • Each field must be of less than 1000 characters, blank included. Longer fields will be shorten ending with [...]
  • Newline will not be rendered in the final document. Please do such that the fields are easily readable in one paragraph.

Edit the directory of your own Institution

Scholar have the possibility to select their organization employer in a drop-down list of their profile : 'Organization Employer (select or fill the field below):'

If you have registered your organization, your members will be able to select it in their profile. Persons in charge of an institution can then ask for the permission to export a CSV file from the CSS site with the data of their members. We provide a matlab script that convert this CSV into a latex document in the style of the CSS Who's who (see attachment). You then can customize the layout to your institution.
