Rules:

First rule of ECCS2009 is you don't talk about the contest... ok.. this one is just a lame quote from Fight Club, but we do think Fight club is a great movie.

Talking seriously (We promise!)

The challenge:

We are providing some dataset from the CSS community in an anonimyzed form (If you want you are free to reveal your name). It consists basically in the bipartite graph of users and the keywords that each user added to his/hers profile in CSS. Only members of CSS ECCS09 has been added to the list. With this we are also listing some additional information that you can use as you think fit (see the data section ) .

The objective is to be the most imaginative that you can, applying what ever knowledge you have in the field of complexity sciences, to tell something about our community from these data.

The project can be anything, from visualization of data, statistics, pattern detection, recomendation systems, etc... etc... etc... (if it's your first night in fight club, you'll have to fight!)

Rules:

The golden rule: Do what ever you like!

Auxiliary rules:
  • Every team can compete but only teams that include at least one CSS member are eligible to win the prize. Some  CSS members can be found via the CS browser.
  • Project will be associated to a wikipage on CSS to present results.

The Prize:

The "Prize and Honour" Committee of the Complex System Society will give €500 for the winner of the contest.

Winner will be choosen by a vote to which all CSS members can participate. If there is less than 100 votes expressed, the "Prize and Honour" committee might choose the winner in order to avoid bias due to large teams.

Evaluation criteria

CSS members will be invited to consider the following criteria in their vote:
  • Did you learn something new about our community ?
  • Are the methods and tools clearly explained and the results reproducible ?
  • Does the approach scale ?
